Valentina Kuprin's use of the finest Chinese silk as a medium to explore the rune stones is an interesting choice that contrasts with the unyielding nature of the original stone used by the Viking craftsmen. She dyes her silks in strong bright colors, fixed at high temperatures, to give an impression of just how colorful some of these early monuments really were. Evidence suggests that many of the Viking stones were vividly colored with natural dyes. Valentina's dramatic paintings hint at the prospect of encountering brightly colored stones erected in the landscape over one thousand years ago. Valentina has previously exhibited her work across Scandinavia including Norway, Sweden and Finland and more recently has taken part in exhibitions in America. She originally trained as a fashion designer, but has been examining rune stones and painting silks for the last five years.
