Jostedal is a small village in Luster with approximately 450 inhabitants. In the norwegian history the place is well known for the legend about the "Jostedalsrypa". Under the Black Death in 1349 many of the wealthy people escaped from Sogn to the isolated place called Jostedalen, in hope to escape the disease. They built new farms and lived very isolated. The Black Death reach them at the end, and all of them died. But when a group of men came from the village, they was suprised to find a litle girl. She was shy and frigthen, and was named "Jostedalsrypa".
